The activity was held at the Taboo Bamboo Restaurant.  It was presided by Ellis Pérez, Vice-President of Communications and Public Relations of Cap Cana, Miguel Ricart, Commodore of the Santo Domingo Nautical Club and Andrew New, Cap Cana Marine Manager.

Mr. Ellis Pérez emphasized that unlike other editions, this time it will be really exciting because it will feature several international tournaments. He added that the fishing experience will not only be for Dominicans, because there are other fishermen from all over the world participating who are getting ready to compete and enjoy this experience. He highlighted that “during this season of this fascinating sport, Cap Cana is going through a momentum as a worldwide fishing and navigation destiny and the main protagonist is its spectacular Marina”.

“Cap Cana has the support of the Santo Domingo Nautical club to  celebrate one of the best fishing seasons in  the Dominican Republic, expressed Miguel Ricart.  He added that the Santo Domingo Nautical Club will include its traditional national tournaments within the 2010 Cap Cana fishing Season:  “XLV White Marlin Cabeza de Toro Yacht Club Tournament” and the “XV Blue Marlin Santo Domingo Nautical Club Tournament”.

In addition, Andrew New, Cap Cana Marina Manager explained the details of the Season where members of different local yacht clubs will participate and announced the dates for more than seven national and international tournaments to be held from April 22 to September 18, 2010 at Cap Cana Marina.

-    PUERTO RICO LIGHT TACKLE  (May 25-30)
-    INTERNATIONAL CAP CANA BILLFISH SHOOT OUT  (June  1-5)
-    II WHITE MARLIN CAP CANA TOURNAMENT   (June 17-19)
-    XV SANTO DOMINGO NAUTICAL CLUB  BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENT  (June 22-24)  
-    III CAP CANA CLASSIC BLUE MARLIN   (August 5-7)
-    II SHOOT OUT CAP CANA (September 16-18)


The Cap Cana International Billfish Shoot Out is just one of the several international tournaments.  It is one of the most renowned worldwide fishing competitions.  This competition was successfully held in La Gaira, Venezuela during 15 years and as of this season, Cap Cana is going to be the new host to this important tournament.  It is estimated that more than thirty boats will participate with representatives from different countries.  Part of the profits of the tournament will go to Real Life Adventures, an entity which consists of a group of international fishermen who will donate these funds to the homeless victims of Haiti´s earthquake.

The Puerto Rico Light Tackle is another tournament being held during this season. It is usually held in   San Juan, Puerto Rico and is characterized by the use of light fishing equipment.   

All tournaments will be regulated by The International Game Fish Association (IGFA).

Likewise, and as in other years, the traditional tournaments “Anzuelo de Oro”, “Shoot Out Cap Cana”, “Cap Cana Classic White Marlin” and “Cap Cana Classic Blue Marlin”, which will be WBS (World Billfish Series) certified this time,  will also take place.

One of this season´s many attractions is the “Best Boat” winner´s award at the Anzuelo de Oro Tournament which consists in an opportunity to participate at the 55th edition of the renowned International Marlin Fishing Tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Like in the past, out of respect for the environment a feature that characterizes all actions taken by Cap Cana, each one of the tournaments will follow the Catch & release method.

During the rest of the time, the participants may enjoy a nice agenda of social activities in the different areas of Cap Cana.

The Cap Cana Marina is strategically located just off the Mona Passage.  It offers one of the main worldwide fishing points, therefore providing a season full of challenges for all the participants.
